A recent inspection of the church confirmed that essential tie-bars at the top of the spire need urgent repairs, if it is to maintain its structural integrity. St Wen's is famous for its bellringing, but the bells remain out of action currently, as they may cause movement within the spire, which could cause further damage and masonry to fall. Repairs could cost up to £250,000 and the church has been fundraising as a priority, to earn enough for the vital work.
